PrivateGuard Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 3, 2026

PrivateGuard is a Chrome extension that moves the browsing history of websites you choose out of Chrome's history and address-bar suggestions into a private archive that only you can see. This policy explains what data the extension handles and how.

Summary

Data the extension handles

Optional Google Drive sync

If you turn on sync, the extension asks for permission to access only its own hidden application folder in your Google Drive (drive.appdata scope). It cannot see or modify any of your other Drive files. Your archive is compressed and encrypted on your device using AES-256-GCM with a key derived from your password (PBKDF2-SHA256, 600,000 iterations) before upload. If you forget your password, the cloud copy cannot be recovered.

You can turn off sync at any time. To delete the cloud copy, remove PrivateGuard's app data in Google Drive (Settings → Manage apps → PrivateGuard → Delete hidden app data).

Permissions

Data retention and deletion

Your archive stays on your device until you delete entries in the extension or uninstall it. Uninstalling the extension deletes all local data. Cloud data remains in your Google Drive app folder until you delete it as described above.

Limited Use

PrivateGuard's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
